right, so this is the last piece I made (that I didn't even finish) when I decided I didn't know how the fuck to color. Cropped way the fuck down, but I loved his mouth. That was the only good part of the entire piece. Well, this and the smoke, but that would require the rest of the shittyness.
I think it's that I find the process of color mixing so much less intuitive digitally than with paint. With paint it was always easy, I mean, it just happened. I get up on photoshop and I think it's like there is just too much shit to deal with. Like where's my alizarin crimson and pthalo green? I can't even simulate brush strokes the way I'd like. It all just turns into a big muddy mess.
Much respect to everyone who can color in a painterly style because I sure as hell don't know wtf I'm doing.
Painterly styles amaze me. All of my attempts turn into blobs.
I really like this, though, especially the soft glow of the cigarette and his expression. Looks like he was minding his own business and enjoying a smoke when suddenly a wtf moment occurred. Gotta hate it when that happens.
ah yes, a wtf moment occurred. His long time arch rival and hated enemy showed up just as he was about to obliterate someone.
Same guy with the mohawk, the avatar, etc. Enemy is the dark haired character. The someone is the girl in my gallery who I have drawn like once (well posted).
The wtf moment is basically the catalyst of the story. It had to be poignant. I have tried drawing this scene 4 times, including tonight only to end with pages of rubbish.
It's a shame you didn't finish the rest of the image because it looks like you were really onto something here Although saying that, I really like the close up composition too!

ha ha, yeah it was going alright, but then things just got kind of sloppy and muddy. I had really enjoyed painting the mouth's expression and the rest of it just wasn't up to par.
Gonna be trying something more like this soon hopefully, I have an image in mind that I've yet to sketch with some dramatic lighting I'd like to try with a painterly style. I've got a real problem though, I don't like it when I can't finish something in a sitting which is rather dumb, but I get antsy and rush things instead of putting them aside. The problem with putting it aside is that I usually lose interest so half of the work I do this way never gets to being finished. Guh.
I know exactly what you mean, I've got about 20 images that I started and forgot about, then I don't want to carry on with them because by the time I get round to it I know I could do a better job of the whole thing so I just can't be bothered!

I love the colour, the detail. Everything about this composition is awesome.
You can just picture the rest of his face, kind of mixed with shock and disgust at the voice of some enemy of his behind him
